“I’ll go to the gym tomorrow. Today’s a cheat day. Plus, my [insert favorite sports team or TV show here] is playing in 30 minutes.” Sound familiar? A week later, after you’ve emerged from the depths of a Netflix blackhole, you say to yourself “What am I doing with my life?” or “Where has my time gone?” Or perhaps you’ve been working out and eating healthy every day but just aren’t getting the results you want. That final push and continual motivation is all about upgrading yourself to be in the right state of mind. A strong mental foundation is…

Wearable technology has taken the fitness world by storm. Walk into any electronics store and you’ll see FitBits, Apple Watches, and Garmin Devices which all claim to give you better sleep, amazing sex, and better results for fitness. Okay – one of those claims I made up, but I won’t say which one. While there are thousands of apps and pieces of tech-fit products you can purchase, today I’m going to dive into the world of heart rate monitors. That’s right – the cute flashing number that appears while you’re running on your favorite treadmill at the gym. Well, only if you…

“Should I go to the gym today? May be I should go for a run instead… yoga does sound pretty good too though – I could use the stretch.” 10 minutes later and you’re still lying in bed or sitting in front of the TV trying to decide what to do. 20 more minutes fly by and your mind is now saying “well I can’t exercise now, I’ll be late for work” or your friend calls and she’s convinced you that if you leave now, that you can still make it to happy hour for drinks. Sound familiar? I was…

Our minds wander, daydream, analyze, and think about thousands of thoughts a day. The majority of these thoughts or visualizations are automated and form part of our daily habits. Other thoughts are more daydream like. For example, if you find yourself staring blankly at your computer screen trying to come up with the next big idea or when you’re in bed at night fantasizing about that hot..spicy.. cold cut sandwich you want to make when you wake up in the morning (get your mind out of the gutter). Thoughts about food and big ideas are more than welcome. In fact,…

I’ve got 99 problems and my pre-workout ain’t one. Walk into any supplement and nutrition store or open a fitness magazine and you’ll see names like “Ripped Animal”, “Pumped Iron Hit”, and “Explosive Craze” lining the shelves. They all claim to have patented formula which are “engineered with technology”. Is any of this true? It’s hard for me to believe that a drink can be filled with technology – it just sounds wrong on many different levels. I took a deeper look at the ingredients in some of the more popular pre-workout drinks and found that the “technology” was too much for…

We’ve all seen the introduction on the Simpsons – the one where Bart Simpson is seen writing some phrase down over and over again on the chalkboard. In fact, as a Simpsons fan growing up, I couldn’t help but feel nostalgic and look these up. Some of my favorites are: “I will not file frivolous lawsuits” – Season 10, Episode 2 “Genetics is not an excuse” – Season 12, Episode 19 “I will only provide a urine sample when asked” – Season 12, Episode 6 While Bart Simpson is being forced to write these sentences down as a punishment, (and unrightly…

“Just 10 more minutes” I would say to myself every morning when the alarm went off for the 5th time. I would reluctantly climb out of bed, put some clothes on (not always clean), run to the washroom, and be out of the house in six minutes flat. If there was ever a race created for the fastest 100 metre dash out the door – I would have won. Yes I admit – I was a chronic snoozer and would wake up regretting every moment of being awake. Fast forward to three years later and my day now starts with a structured…
